well I've only ever played through as a female, but I've watched countless hours of my boyfriend play through and romance everybody, then I pointed out that jack looked identical to his ex, who recently shaved all of her hair off...
and because they could
I think Jack worked for me because I actually thought the model had beautiful eyes. That and she was the only person in the game not throwing themselves at Shep after ten minutes. She wasn't falling for the big-ass hero routine like anyone else with compatable sex organs; you had to win her over, and not put a step wrong, or you blew any chance of really finding out who Jack is underneath the attitude and the bravura. Everyone else in the game, you knew who they were before the relationships deepened - much like the bromance with Wrex. Having to work to get your treats makes an rpg so much more satisfying and involving... and then they blew it with that damn ending! Bah!

plus I've only had a chance to complete ME3 once, I have to mail it back to my boyfriend today
1. Tali is not exiled during her Loyalty Mission
2. Destroy the Geth Heretics during Legion's Loyalty Mission
3. Loyalty conflict between Legion and Tali resolved with both of them still loyal
4. Rescue Admiral Koris in ME3
If you did 3/4 of those things then a Paragon and a Renegade Dialouge option appears in which Shepard (with Tali and Admiral Koris backing him/her up) is able to get Admiral Gerrel to back down.
